I am in serious need of an intervention. I have too much stuff. I need to get organized before I let anyone see my room.
I am working on it...I keep checking out other teacher's rooms trying to get inspiration and motivation. My favorite spots to stalk are Angela Watson's Cornerstone for Teachers and School Supply Addict's Amazing Rooms to Check Out. After recovering from serious room envy I started trying to get organized and pare down....give away...create the learning space that I really want. I decided to purchase Deanna Jump's Organization Station and get to work. I have watched Deedee Wills video tour of her classroom several times. Every time I get side-tracked or discouraged I go back and review Organization Station and find another classroom to inspire me. It has been a slow process....but I am making progress.
I have a hard time throwing anything away. These boxes that our curriculum materials come in are so sturdy. I thought they would make great places to put our math journals and other supplies. They are however not cute and looking like a walking commercial. With all the cute duck tape out there, I knew I could find things that would make them look better. Here is what I came up with:
I have five tables, divided by colors. Why colors? I already had bins in every color except green, and Target had scissors on sale in 6 colors. If yellow and orange were the same color it could all coordinate (plus I was given green bins by a fellow teacher who was getting rid of hers). Now to make the boxes match. Duck tape in every color is all I need. Done. Polka Dot tape was too cute and tied it all together. Done. Now Duck tape on the pencil cans or should I switch to paint?
It's not much but I made it. I hope it qualifies for Made it Monday.
I love how you upcycled those curriculum boxes! :)

Carried Away in... K!
I kind-of went crazy and did several extra with fun duck tape I kept finding.
DeleteWow, lovely job. I have a difficult time throwing things away too, I love those curriculum boxes. I use mine as well. I am still working in my room, hope to be done tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteLooks great! Here is the link to Deedee's tour if anyone else was wondering. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSCBNIOmb04
ReplyDeleteThanks for adding that...I thought I had the link all set to go.
DeleteOh, it's coming along great! These pics make me wish I taught elementary school! I have a "roommate" in my new school this year, and he has lots of nice art to get us started. We don't have much storage space, though. I'm definitely inspired to upcycle and decorate some boxes!
